JAPAN: Mazda launches online museum

Mazda Motor Corporation has opened an online museum said to bring the exhibition at its Hiroshima design centre “to life” using a combination of flash and broadband video.

Visitors can learn about such milestones in the automaker’s history as its LeMans-winning RX-7 to the development of the rotary engine.

Developers spent months photographing heritage and futuristic car designs from multiple angles. Video clips include designers talking about car development and close-up views of 30 top models.

Featured cars include concept, classic and innovative models including the 1967 Cosmo Sport, the MX-5 Miata and the 1991 787B (the only Japanese car to win at LeMans).

A special exhibition section will showcase concept cars displayed at motor shows.
