Thread: New stereo - finally!

  1. #1

    Default New stereo - finally!

I finally got my stereo picked out and installed, although I wussed out and had it put in (life's too short and I'm too old to be doing another stereo install). Anyhow, it's an Alpine 9885 w/iPod control teamed up with Boston Acoustic S60 component speakers (no amp, no sub). It passed my "Dark Side of the Moon" test with flying colors!

I'll probably be out at one or both meets next week so I can be a big show-off...

Wow, that looks good. I like Alpine, I have one in my civic. I have had it foe about a year and I really like it.

Can't wait to hear it. It will be neat to compare our systems. I am getting the final piece for my Birthday in May. A footwell sub.

I went by Earmark this week and saw another goodie that looks interesting though...

Wierd thing is it is strictly for the iPod and MP3's. No CD player at all. I rarely use my CD player anyway. The screen is ideal and the interface is the best I've seen for an iPod but not exactly like the iPod.
    ...and across the line.

THAT is wicked cool! Who even needs a CD player? Alpine definitely has the iPod thing down pat. I looked at a Pioneer (had a nice one in my BMW and loved it), but their iPod interface was dog crap - IMHO.

I'm curious to see a footwell sub install. Several people threw that idea at me, but I never saw one installed. I figured I'd start small and build up as needed (if needed). Who knows, I may go apesh*t one day, but I'm good for now...

BTW, Earmark did my install & I can definitely recommend them... they fit the BA 6.5" door speakers completely behind the door panels - can't even tell they're there!

Not that hard to do. I installed mine myself. I prefer to do the work myself but they will be making my subwoofer and installing it. Making a custom sub box to the right dimensions is beyond me.

I like my old Alpine 9815. I had it in my 90 DA and now it's in the 06 DC5. If I did have the $$$, I'd like to build me next system around this beauty.

    Looks great

I just pre-ordered one of these:

Supposedly no moving parts, FM only and it's supposed to allow you to use your Bluetooth enabled phone, we'll see.

I'm not a huge Clarion fan, hope it works. The nice guy at Crutchfield sent me a free 2nd wiring harness & dash adapter for daughter's car even though I bought the head unit for hers somewhere else.

Anyone have a suggestion for headrest speakers? dunno if I want to spring for the Max 5's

FM only!? How can you just listen to the radio?

It also has a SD MMC slot for MP3 playback.

I can't get the image of a SD card stuffed with songs floating out of my hand at highway speed with the top down.

I don't miss mine one bit (and I really wanted to keep them until I got the M seats that didn't have them). The component setup with tweeters in the doors sounds great, even on the highway with the top down - you just gotta have enough power to drown out most of the wind!

No kidding... perhaps if it has a connection for an iPod.

I mostly listen to the radio, but plan to put a loaded 4 gig or so SD card in it, and just leave it there.

I ordered these Polks yesterday too:

    They're $117 with free shipping at Cardomain.com
I'll probably break down & order some Max 5's

Sounds like a really nice price on the Polks! But before you spring for the others, try it out with just the components... just a suggestion.

Here they are on Crutchfield, looks like they're sold out on cardomain. I'm actually not too picky about speakers etc, my ears are toast, too much damage over the years, concerts, guns, cycle riding without a helmet, etc...
