Thread: So it finally happened: Rear ended in the miata

Angry So it finally happened: Rear ended in the miata

I was stuck in stop n go traffic on westbound 190 this morning. Just when I slowly came to a stop, I noticed the lady behind me in her Tacoma was not stopping. Since I was in the left lane, I swayed to the shoulder and hoping that would gave her enough extra space to stop.... No luck, she ran right into my right rear corner at around 20mph.

Turned out her cellphone was ringing, she reached to her purse at the passenger footwell and forgot to look and brake! So my rear right light is busted, trunk lid pushed in and misaligned (so all my stuff stays in the trunk since I cannot open it), right rear fender is also messed up a bit. I hoping there's no frame damage, the car is dialed in and feel great at autocross.....

Luckily the lip spoiler and rear skirt are OK!

I got all her info. Going to call her and my insurance agent.

Any advises on how to handle this? And body shop recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Alan

Wow, Alan, sorry to hear about that!

Your car was really hooking up at the autocrosses. Hopefully everything will be back to normal when you get the car back from the body shop.

I've heard good things about Sewell (not sure which one though) from the S2K guys.

    I'm sending you a PM.

That stinks Alan. I am always looking in my rear view mirror, afraid something like that is going to happen.

For a second, I thought this was the Shocker Sticker thread and I was getting worried...

Sorry to hear Alan, are you okay? No injuries? Your car was doing quite well at the autocrosses but you could autocross the car like that if you wanted to. My friend autocrossed with his bumper all zip tied together. You can just drive the rx8 and bump up a class.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

I wouldn't recommend Service King in west Plano - our CR-V has been there from an accident on July 4th, and I've been fighting with them for the last week and a half to get them to fix some minor body damage that mysteriously appeared between the time of the accident and the time the car was ready for me to pick up.

Dang that sucks, I was hoping this wasn't going to be an accident thread. Hope everything works out, Stuarts in garland does good work but very pricey. But since the ladies insurance is paying I would try them. They work on Ferrari/Lambo of Dallas and Boardwalk Audi's cars. The good thing is I doubt there's any frame damage from the pics, looks to be a fairly light hit.

You can also co-drive my car in TES for ER/SCCA until your car is fixed if you want.

OK, the lady accepted liability. I could choose from Farmer's recommended body shops or I could pick my own and have an adjuster come out.

These are the farmer's body shops:

    Herbs Body Shop
    Ray Huffines Collison center
    Service King
    Richardon Automotive
David Mcdavid Lincoln and Mercury in Plano
Preston Chrysler Jeep and Dodge on Alpha road

Any of them is good? Any more recommendations?

I really wish the car won't be totaled....

Thanks for all the help guys!

If you don't want the car to be totaled, be open to some non-OEM replacement parts. If you want it to be totaled, demand OEM.
