  1. #1

I got an O2 sensor not ready, EGR system not ready, and a catalyst not ready.

Check your timing and idle, then disconnect the battery and hold the brake pedal down for 10 seconds.

    This worked for me.

Did you disco the battery and not go thru enough drive cycles? Sounds like it was reset and not driven enough before the inspection.

Yes, definitly reset your timing to 10*. Then find someone with a code reader (or buy one) . Don't go back to the inspection station until you have only 2 sensors reading "not ready". You can pass with 2, but not 3. I had the same problem last year.

My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

get on the highway and stay about 55 for about 10 minutes. it hasnt completed a drive cyle and those are the ones that operate at cruising.

I did pop in a new battery yesterday, but cranked out ~75 miles between inspections.

Default HELP! I just failed too.

92, 1.6L, with 14 degrees timing. Do you think it will help if I reset to 10 degrees?

    I failed the HC at 25 MPH = 186 / HC at 15 MPH = 216
    I failed the NOx at 15 MPH = 1541

Any other suggestions? I read in the thread about a drive cycle? Should I reset the timing and then complete the drive cycle prior to retesting.

AND, does anybody have the timing light and can show me how to reset the timing? I would like to learn anyway.

    Thanks in advance.

It might help... I'm not sure how out of whack those #s are... I'd have to refer to when my 90 Spec passed its last inspection.

I'm in Lewisville and have a timing light buried somewhere in the garage. It's cake to reset the timing. You just jumper 10/gnd, shine the light, loosen the bolt on the CAS and rotate it slightly to set it.

Note: find the wrench or 1/4" drive socket you will use to loosen the CAS bolt, and break it loose BEFORE you get the engine warm. It will also help if your wrench is flexible, you have really strong fingers, and are double-jointed at the wrist.

But RJ's right, all you have to do is

    Default Thanks Channel...

I am in Argyle, not too far. Never set the timing before on a car...which is kind of funny as I have done so many other things.

PM me if you can spend a few minutes this week showing me how to do it.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Default Set it 10 degrees

Wow, what a difference. The car seems slugish (probably more of a stock feel) then with the ignition timing set at an advanced setting. The car was closer to 18 degrees / not 14 as I had previously stated.

Once it passes, I will put it back to where it was. I gotta have more power.....

Awesome, passed. Just needed a zillion drive cycles, it still shows EGR not ready, but I'm sure that'll clear eventually.

Thanks for the help all. Saved me a trip to a mechanic.
