Default WTB - 1.6 to 1.8 Conversion Stuff

I am considering doing the 1.8L conversion to my 1991 Miata. I am looking at what it would cost to get the ECU and engine compartment wiring for a 94 to 97 1.8L engine. Most of the engines I have seen do not come with this. Also, if you have a 94 - 97 1.8L motor and transmission, let me know what the price is on that. And yes I know the transmissions are the same, but my is toast.

    Thanks,

    Rob

you don't need the ECU and wiring. Besides you'd have to rewire the whole car

Flying Miata makes a kit that makes this swap plug and play. This is definitely the easiest way to do it. The kit is $189, which will most likely cost you less than a computer and all the necessary wiring would cost you.

I did it, and only used the TB adaptor.
I did end up buying the coil rack, but it broke in less than a month.
You really don't want to get into wiring, don't ask how I know.

The swap is well documented in books and on the pointy.

I agree with Rouge. The only things handy in that kit is the TB adaptor and the coil rack. Everything else is a waste of money and can be done yourself for cheaper and better. Trust me I know.

Well I was very disappointed in the coil rack.
It is pretty, and a clean install, but just not heavy enough stainless to hold the coils.
They should last longer than a month.

Thanks for everyones guidance. Now, do any of you guys who part out Miatas have a 1.8L engine and transmission from a 94 to 97? Mileage and cost if you have one.

    Thanks,

    Rob

If you transmisson is good you can use it and save some money for clutch and flywheel. SOrry I now see that yours is toast. Must be getting old.

Use your 1.6 flywheel to keep that 1.6 acceleration.

I've done the swap a couple times. Let me know if you have any questions. I also have a write up somewhere on my computer I can email you.

Yep, my coil bracket broke also but it lasted almost 2 years!
