Hey GM, ever notice how many Solstices and Skys [sic] are running around on beautiful days with the top up? That's because it's a PITMFA to drop it.

    This is worse.

They have said that there will be an optional soft top much like the one available for the Elise, but I'm sure that it will be a pain just like the Elise soft top and the Solstice Roadster top.

I think it's going to look kind of like an FC RX-7, but much better.

Porsche Slaps a Cease and Desist Order on Winding Road for “Solstice Targa”
from The Truth About Cars by Robert Farago

"Farago better cover his ears," former TTACer Chris Paukert said, kneeling by one of his colleagues in the floor of the press room. As if. Turns out Porsche has issued a cease and desist order against Paukert's current employer, windingroad.com, after the website referred to the new Solstice hardtop as a "Solstice Targa." Within hours, the automaker sent a legal document ordering them to stop using the word "Targa" for anything other other than a Porsche Targa (named after the Targa Florio). They "suggested" the alternative: "T-top" or "removable glass roof." While we understand Porsche's Kleenex-like desire to protect their model nomenclature, perhaps a quiet word in the website's proverbial ear would have sufficed. We also wonder if Porsche would have been satisfied if Winding Road had used a small "t" instead of a capital "T." I know: let's see what happens. Solstice targa. Anything? Just for fun: Solstice Targa. Frank, put Ms. Brown on standby.

And yet no one ever complains about this with an Elise. I guess if you've got to spend $40k+ on a car that you need to wear noise-canceling headphones to drive, who cares about how unfriendly the top is, right?

Maybe it's because the Elise is actually worth it

Have you driven one? I have, and I would disagree with that statement.

I'll say this... if it's a "Targa" (TM Porsche, AG apparently) then one should be able to carry the effing top in the car. I mean, what if it rains? What then, friendo? Even the Corvette and the Camaro have little straps to hold the top panels whilst one is driving down the road. Surely to GOD the Solstice "T" will have this sorted out by gametime.

I've never driven an Elise, but I myself would be a tad frustrated when I found out that my street-legal dual-purpose track-rat had no place to store the pissy little top when I decided to, say, drive it down to Austin via the backroads. Seriously. Even Lotus could've planned for that. But GM? Really?
