    Default R package or ?

I just purchased this Miata (my first) last week and posted it on the introductions topic.

Some of you seemed to think it was an R package, so I am posting more pictures to make sure.

I know it does not have the R chin piece but the chin was damaged when I bought the car and the damage was covered up by a bra. I knew the damage was there but had no idea that there was anything missing or even that there was such a thing as an "R package".

I'm hoping you can tell. It is a 1994 with manual steering, Bilstien shocks and crank up windows.

I had a cheapo air dam/spoiler come for it that I was going to use to reinforce the repairs to the chin but you guys convinced me it was an R so I ordered the OEM spoiler to bring it back right. Anyways that's the excuse I'm using to justify the expense.

Yep sure looks like an R Package!

    1994 R Package
The R package was a $1500 option package and not a special model

Equipment: Sport Suspension (Bilsteins shocks, heavy-duty rear springs, heavier sway bars), rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential The R was not available with power steering, automatic transmission or with A, B, C option packages

Optional: air conditioning, hardtop (dealer installed only)

    Production: 1218

Base MSRP: $18,150 plus $395 freight, plus options

Brochures: The R Package was listed in the sales brochure. The Laguna Blue R package was shown in a magazine ad in 1994
    Congrats!

Looks like apex2apex has a new R pack twin. Something else you can do is pull a wheel off and look at the stamp on the back of the spokes. Miata.net has a write up about the differences between a hollow spoke wheel that came on the R pack and the semi-hollow spoke. They have different sequences of numbers/letters/spaces stamped on the back.

Or just call Mazda USA customer service with the VIN, they were even able to tell me which # 93LE I had.

+1 You can find their number on the Mazda USA website. I've used it a couple of times in researching potential purchases. Quick. easy. free. And they know the answer.

But yes, it looks like you found an R.

Indeed I am, looks like I'll pick one up when I sell the car so it's a truly complete LE (that's the only thing missing).

I looked at Trussville (on backorder) and Mazdaspeed (local dealer on backorder), I just bought it from the first place that had one in stock, not being a patient person.

It doesn't matter what you pay -- someone else always knows a place that is cheaper.
