Thread: Homemade Wind Blocker

    Default Homemade Wind Blocker

Wind chill had been driving me nuts lately, so I thought I'd make my own wind block. I ran over to Lowe's and picked up a $7 sheet of 24"x18" Lucite. I used my HDHCHTDD guide and made a cardboard template. I transfered the template to the Lucite and cut away! I then drilled several holes and used zip ties to attach it to my roll bar. Easy and cheap but effective!

    Not bad, eh? :p

I prettied it up for AutoX days -

So how well does it work? I've been thinking of doing something similar for years, but with velcro straps instead of zip ties, so I could remove it.

Drive faster. (Really, it already leaked like a sieve.)

It works fairly well... I went out on test drives tonight and had no problems with it. I was looking to use velcro cable ties as well but just didn't get around to picking any up. Plus I would have to have used a router to make the holes nice and wide. If I have to remove it, I'll just snip the ties with a pair of snips and get on with life. To replace, just another ten ties. Easy, for me anyhow.

    Nice one 3Bean!

Although you could use a simple Dremel tool to do the slots instead of a router

It seems channelmaniac forgot his own rules:

'use Duct Tape to attach it & use WD-40 to clean off the Duct Tape goo when you remove it.'

I'd go with the black Duct Tape for more bling

True, but to free hand something that I wanted to look good would have been almost impossible - especially repeating it 10 times. I didn't want to make pattern out of wood to use as a template - besides, the zip ties don't bother me in the least. When I get more roll bar padding, it too will be held on with more ties!

With my waist line... they haven' made that many zips yet!
You just loop them through the two belt loops on either side and pull them together. Sort of like old man slacks.

You wouldn't know anything about that, now would you?
