    Default Hill Country Ride Dates

The hill country tour is on!
    October 3rd - 5th, 2008

I am moving this from planning to Events. I got quite a bit of response to the planning thread, enough anyway to go ahead and schedule the ride.

I don't know how big a turn out we will actually have so I am going to ask everyone to make their own reservations. I am hoping that we can all stay close together so I am suggesting we stay at the place suggested by Miata Maniac. http://www.foxfirecabins.com/

They have four 2 bedroom 1 bath cabins available and a 2 bedroom 2 bath house called the Peachtree House at the same location. There is a minimum two night stay and each cabin will accommodate two couples, so find somebody else to share with if you like. They also have other houses in the area that are within 20 minutes of the main location that are as big as 5 bedroom. Please check the website carefully regarding kitchen and telephone facilities.

I am planning on meeting at the McDonald's in Alvarado at the intersection of US 67 and I35W at 9:00am on Friday the 3rd and motoring from there, taking the scenic route with leg stretching stops. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Alva...:::::f:EN:M:/e

Friday evening will be free time to get settled. (or drunk).

Saturday morning go for a ride around the scenic loops in the area and perhaps tour the state parks. Lost Maples state park is right next to the cabin site and is a beautiful spot for tubing and picnics and primitive campsites. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/f...s/lost_maples/

Garner State Park is only a few minutes away and has RV hookups and other camping sites available and is the most beautiful of all the state parks in my experience. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/f.../parks/garner/ If you decide to make another trip down someday, they have cabins that sleep 6 but are booked a year or more in advance.

The rest of the weekend is up to you with horseback riding, canoing and shopping being just a few of the things to do in the area including the Oktober Fiesta in Luckenbach Saturday. http://www.luckenbachtexas.com/icws2...m?eventID=1789

I hope you all can make it. Paul.

PS Please post here once you have made reservations so we can see who all is coming Thanks.

Awesome, I'm in. Can we plan to meet in Marble Falls around lunchtime for any Austin folks? There's a good Cafe there, I can't remember the name though. (Bluebonnet?)

Did you have to put down a deposit for the reservation? I'm down for a room in the Main House.
Though, I probably won't be bringing the SO b/c I plan to drive most of the day Saturday.

Interested, but the website shows a 3 night minimum at Peachtree House for that weekend. $544.50 for 4 adults.

    " Sept 2 – October 23 Off-Peak"

    125+20+20=(165)*2 nights=(330)/4=82.5 per person

Pretty sure off-peak is not 3 nights min.

Go ahead and call them. They seem willing to negotiate. The online reztracker is an outside webpage. Here is another place to stay in the area that is more like a motel. http://www.utopiaontheriver.com/ or do a google search for lodging near Leakey, TX. This place looks very promising and has vacancies aplenty at this time. http://www.friosprings.com/index.html

I would love to make this. We have our second child, a baby boy, due on the 21st which is far enough away to be safe I am sure but, I am not sure how my wife will be doing that weekend. I guess she can hang out with her mother for the weekend and let me get away for a couple of days. She normally would want to come but I dont think she will be too interested 8.5 months pregnant.

I guess I have to sit this one out. Boy does this sound like a blast though.

Now, we do plan on attending the NHRA Fall Nationals in Sept. though.

Discretion is the better part of valor. We will be more than an hour from the nearest hospital. Maybe next time would be better. Best wishes for your child.

Hey, my has said she'll go and has made sure to not be on call that weekend. If no other couples are going, we may end up doing something else.

My computer is down for some much needed upgrades so I am posting on my cell. Sorry if I missed anything, I am still hoping for some company on this drive which I WILL be making. Y'all are missing out on a good time! I understand that we all have busy lives. BTW I can provide a support truck and trailer if you are concerned about breaking down. Let me know if you are concerned about that,

    Creek and Cam,
Is this still on? You want me to put this on the Austin board and see if anyone else wants to go?
