Thread: Need me some Tires!

  1. #1

    Question Need me some Tires!

Well the POSIII needs a new set of street tires, what are the cool kids recommending these days??

I have 15" OEM wheels on the POSIII!

For autocross or just street driving? Not sure if they have the sizes but for autocross it's pretty much (in no particular order)

    1. Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec
    2. Bridgestone RE-01R
    3. Yoko Neova AD07
    4. Hankook RS2
    5. Falken RT-615
    6. Toyo R1R

For daily driving/around town I did some research on the Falken Ziex 912 and they seem to be very good (cheap too!)

I bought the Falken 502s last month because they were on sale for $40 per but the 912s would be my first choice for a street tire at the prices today. $59 per is still a great deal.

    Yes!

More for street use, but an occasional NTAXS,BMW, or PCA event next year.

Lots of folks like the Ze912s for daily driving. Personally, I wasn't real impressed with them on the stock rims. On hot days, they didn't seem to hold on curves very well, and I ran through a set at about 22,000 commuter miles.

To be fair, my shocks were shot, and I tend to take the ramps between freeways at full speed. I won't be buying another set, though.

    Hope this helps.

I've always had good service from Edge Racing. No need to keep raking them over the coals about this.

When I got my T1R's (which would be bad for autocross) I got a price from edge racing then went to local Discount Tire and they matched it.

I bought some 912's a couple of months ago. 205/50R-15. So far I really like them for daily driving although the side walls aren't quite as firm as the 615's I used for AX. I'm only using them as daily drivers. I have seen a lot of comments about the tread wear but they come with a 65k treadwear rating which is sort of unusual for this type of tire. figured if they don't last long I can always use the warranty and swap them out.

Discount tire shows them (in my size) for $106. but I found them online for $63 with free shipping. Printed it out and took to discount in Keller and they matched the price. actually the guy lowered the price so that with tax included the tires came to $63 each. figured I couldnt beat that deal.

While not the cheapest, I've really been happy with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on the Stook. They stick very nicely and seem to have a decent tread life on them.

Dunno what that was about, but I ordered wheels and R comps from Edge Racing earlier this year with no trouble at all. Great prices, prompt delivery, no issues.

FWIW, I just put a set of Sumitomo HTRZ IIIs on the RX-8. So far I like them better than the Ecsta SPTs I had for grip and feedback, although they ride a slight bit rougher.

J-Fo has a set on the Evo as well, and they've held up pretty well to a couple of track days worth of abuse so far.

I let the STS2 guys try to figure out what the best 15" tire is. I think they're split between the Bridgestone and the Dunlop.

I chose the Dunlop cuz it's cheaper and offered a very slight gearing advantage with my 6 speed.

I am running Toyo Proxez4's. I got them from Fort Worth Tire, not that is the only place to get them....

So far, I 'em more than the Goodyear F1's on the car before.

Yes, if you will follow the thread, the o/p states that Edge has resolved the problem.

I vote with Magma on the Yokohama Avids. I put a set on, and for an all around tire they do very well. Maybe not the first choice for an autocross but then again.
