    Default Double Nationals at TWS

Just a note for those with nothing to do this weekend. Texas World Speedway in College Station holds the first SCCA National Spec Miata races Saturday and Sunday. They are gruop five, and there are already thirty-six entries. Should be VERY exciting. Qualifying should be about 10AM and races about 3PM.

Eric didn't race, but Jason was there in a borrowed 99. We all expected him to run away from the pack, but it didn't happen. Top four both days, but the locals were ready for the challenge. Keith Vergas did us proud with second both days in his "lowly" 1.6 car!

Had forty cars and some unbelieveably close racing and virtually no serious contact. Of course, the one that did occur had to involve the car I was crewing on, so we worked 'till 10PM to get it fixed for Sunday. One of them yeller cars got seriously loose out of turn three, the guy to his right locked 'em up, and spun. Bob was coming up inside another car and the space closed up in an instant as the spin continued across the track and Bob became the bologna in the sandwhich! Parts toll: upper a-arm and bolt, tie rod, and two fenders. Tape measure alignment got us close until we could get it on the scales Sunday morning. Corner weights were off considerably from the two pound diff we had before the race, and the right wheel base was a half inch short so I went from Min caster to max which got it much better, reset the toe and Bob was off to qualify a second quicker than Saturday while most everyone else was a half second slower. I was proud that I could do that with virually no precision tools at hand!

As I said some great racing to watch (I soooo miss being out there......) Three cars side by side deep into turn one many times, very close drafting down the long front straight and slingshots, inside passes, outside passes.......and all of this happening from the front of the pack to the rear!

March 21-22 there's a double Regional race at Eagles Canyon. Ya'll really should come out. It's something to experience! I might even get to race! I think I earned it.......
