Thread: The Driver's Edge at Motorsport Ranch February 5 & 6

I am considering going to the Drivers Edge track training at MSR... I have never done any track or autocross event before, and this came highly recommended from a friend.

    Has anyone done this before?

Anyone interested in joining me out there?

Any ideas on where I go to get my safety inspection?

I'd love to join you, but I'm out of tires and money.

Step 1 on the safety inspection is to do it yourself. Make sure you'll pass before you get it done, in other words.

I don't know about shops on your side of the world, but the Firestone in Garland(?) on Campbell Road east of 75 used to be willing to do it for $25. That shop also has an excellent alignment technician (James) if you're in need of one.

A bunch of us have driven at MSR. It's a great track. A bunch of us have had off track excursions at MSR with highly uneventful results.

Sadly I don't currently have a Miata that will meet the Minimum Safety requirements for Drivers Edge, since I don't have a Roll Bar in the car... But that could change by February you just never know!

I love MSR it's a ton of Fun! Hopefully there will be another Mata’s at the ranch for '05!

You could always claim that you have never run on the track before and run with the beginners.... they don't need the roll bar!

I ran with Drivers' Edge last year....without a rollbar....and with the top down. Did something change since then? Are you in the Advanced Run Groups of Red or Yellow? Looks like that would be your only concern for a roll bar.

Sounds like it would be Kestrel approved track time!

Any detail info. on $$, where and when to sign up? I need new tires and a sway bar, therefor $$ is important!

I never try track and like to see how it is done. Can I use my T1S? I am not sure the new Falken will be here in time for this event.

    Let me CLARIFY.

You cannot run a convertible in the Advanced run groups (Yellow and red)without a rollbar. The beginning run groups (Green and Blue) can run any convertible.

Instructors can run anything they want.

    Yes we do.

MSR rents out their track to non-members. I'm not a member and I've been their several times. THAT is the most fun you can have in your Miata. (not cone-dodging)

Track event = All day event with (4-5) 20 minute track sessions

AutoX = All day event standing in a parking lot for (3-4) 45 second runs
    ...and across the line.

With enough leadtime, I'd do a weekday too!

    That would be great Merv!

How much does it cost to run the track out there?
    (the 4-5 20 min runs)

I need to get some tires though.
