Thread: Travel Websites

    Question Travel Websites

I need to go to Chicago next week for a machine tool show sometime between the 14th and 17th. Just need to stay overnight then I need to get back here and back to work. Heck if I could find a cheap direct flight I'd go as early as possible and come home late same day.

Has anyone found a website that allows you to run all the variables to see what days offer the best price as far as airfare goes?

Good luck with prices with less than a week's notice.

I just usually hit the airlines sites and play with their flight times. I've gotten lucky that way.

Try Priceline.com for last minute stuff.

AA.com will let you plug in 'flexible' dates and sort by price.

Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

Gotta figure out how to use that site it has always had too much Shatner for me so historically I have stayed away from it.

Wished I hadn't waited till the last minute I wasn't going then I got a call and started to rethink my choice......

Yep...but if/when your offer is accepted that's it. You're booked.

I've never had any luck with Priceline. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

And it looks like you don't get to pick your travel time...

That may be OK for Hotels kinda spooky for flights.

I used Priceline once, and was pretty happy with it. It was for 9 nights in Waikiki in June 2005. I had booked a hotel that we had stayed at before through Expedia months in advance, but then a few weeks before the trip I played around with Priceline. I ended up getting 9 nights at the 4 star Hilton Prince Kuhio Hotel for $750. ($83.33 night). If I try to book the same hotel through their website for next June, the cheapest room is $152/night non refundable. The only downside was that they were remodeling the lobby when we were there, so there was a little construction going on and the gift shop was closed.

I have also booked several hotels through Hotwire.com over the years with much luck. Never used either site for flights.

if you're going to use priceline, then use the info at sites like biddingfortravel.com to help you make educated bids.

You can also use kayak.com to help you find flights.

I don't travel as much these days, but I used to use Fare Compare. They have easy to use tools that will let you manipulate as many variables as you want.

I used to use hotwire to find out what their lowest fare was and try to beat it on priceline by 20%. It''s worked out most of the time for me.
