Magma had some experience with the.
I was debating them, but was talking to Shaikh at Fat Cat Motorsparts and he said "The Koni Street shocks are poorly damped (softer than factory) so I recommend the KYB GR2s instead" when we were discussing a budget setup....

But then on his (confusing) website he states:
    •KYB GR2 - aftermarket, Japanese-made, twin-tube digressive shock. Non-adjustable.
•Background: not having measured one, we can only comment on user reports and marketing. It seems to be geared as a stock replacement.
•Usage: Stock springs only, not intended for lowering springs or performance applications.
    •Revalve/rebuild? Not serviceable.
    •Dyno graph: None

It would probably help if he updated his website. Ever.

For the Koni's I saw them on tire rack and this is what it said:

KONI has drawn on decades of high performance shock experience to develop an affordable, performance shock absorber. A great O.E. replacement that offers additional stability, control and handling without a harsh ride, the STR.T (pronounced "street") Shock also nicely complements lowering springs and/or anti-roll bar upgrades.

    and Good-Win-Racing:

These Koni Orange Replacement Miata Shocks are Non-adjustable replacements for your stock Miata shocks. They are an upgrade over the stock Miata shocks, providing a slightly firmer ride and superior control with Koni quality and lifetime warranty. These "STR.T-Street Shocks" are Koni's entry level performance shock absorber designed as a perfect OE replacement with stock springs or for Miata improvement with a mild lowering spring such as our Racing Beat street Miata springs. * Non-adjustable * Lifetime Warranty * The most affordable KONIs. Price is PER SHOCK.

If I were looking to replace my OEM shocks for a street Miata, these would be my choice.

I guess the big question is for a DD that gets driven hard sometimes (street or track) with lowering springs do ya'll think they will be okay? I plan on getting coilovers but it won't be for awhile due to the price of them.

Thanks, I just picked it up saturday from a dude in Denton. It needs a little TLC but nothing major so far. I'm looking to pick up a new top, wheels and tires, and possibly some suspension as soon as the truck sells. I'll post up pics as soon as I clean it up. Rogue is going to do some work on the trunk for me too due to it having an aftermarket luggage rack on it. I'm glad to be back in a sports car!

Is it the one that was advertised by the poor grad student? I think it still had the BBS wheels.

Yep that's the one. It is all stock but don't have the caps for the wheels. Other than that it's in pretty good condition.
