    Default In-ground sleeve

The wife wanted a patio umbrella (9' diameter) near her chaise lounges. I tried one of those bases you fill with water and it was useless. Small breeze would blow everything over. I had some scrap PVC (1.5") and drove it into a flower bed at the edge of the poured patio. Dropped the umbrella into it....works great!

The problem is when the umbrella is tilted, the wind will blow the umbrella around inside the sleeve, changing the position of the shade. I thought about drilling a small hole in the PVC and glueing in a nut, and then use a thumb-screw thru the nut to stop the umbrella from spinning.

Any other ideas? Not sure how the nut will hold up.

But you can move your base around, mine is stationary.

Ours is an old school concrete base that we don't move.
