Default Decent roads to drive on around DFW area ?

Well since I'm fairly new to the area , Where are some good roads to take a nice spirited drive on around here ?

Back in Md I had a nice 12 mile loop to drive on some backroads with some hairpins, s turns , and not much traffic that ran along a river, and resivor.
Here's a video I found on you tube of one part of the road that I liked to drive to give a general idea of what I'm looking for

Skip ahead to 2:50 thats were the road starts

Little hard to find around the metroplex area. At least I haven't had any luck yet in the immediate vicinity. If you go south west out of town or west towards Mineral Wells you can find some decent roads. I'm from that area and know where most of the good ones are at. Farm Road 4 out in Palo Pinto county is a pretty good drive between the town of Palo Pinto and Santo. Also if you can make it down to Granbury Hwy 51 going southwest out of Granbury is a really good road. There's also some pretty good back roads to take between Weatherford and Mineral Wells/Milsap which are just two lane (sometimes 1.5 lane) country roads.

If you ever get a free weekend I suggest heading down to Kerrville, Tx area and hitting the "Three Sisters". I've done those roads on both two and four wheels and it's some of the best riding/driving I've ever done.

If you find any, please let me know. The "closest" to the NJ/NY roads I grew up on are out near Haslet, Saginaw, etc. And by close I mean that there is about 3 turns within a mile. Not nearly as depressing as the roads in Orlando, but it's fairly close.

Oh, there actually were some decent roads on the way to Bembrook Lake...I was in the truck, but I distinctly remember saving the route in my GPS so I can find it once my car runs again. At this point, an hour drive for some fun roads is more than worth it to me.

I'll try to get a map put together of the roads I know of over around Weatherford/mineral wells/granbury area :) I should be able to post it up here by the end of the day.

Maybe we need to start a subforum here with GPX files so you can just drop in download a GPX file of a route and then upload it to your GPS. Some of the motorcycle forums I'm on have these subforums and it's a good way to get trip routes and whatnot.

Here's a few maps from the group rider website. And you can download the GPX files and upload them to your GPS units for easy finding of the roads.

    This one is mine ^

I'll try to get that map of the roads I know put together today and post it up should have a GPX file with it too.

Go with the s2000 club on a windmill drive. It's pretty nice. Or take a drive down to the hill country.

Check out FM-51 from Weatherford down to US-67. Then, if you're hungry for BBQ, head over to Hard 8 in Stephenville - it rivals the best Hill Country grub, IMO.

This is a really good road especially when you get south of Granbury it gets nice and tight.

I love living in Granbury for this very reason. I actually live off of 51. FM 4 (Tin Top Rd) from Granbury to Weatherford and back home on 51 with a few detours on the side roads through the farms is awesome. 42 mile loop that is turn after turn. :)
I use to worry about money; but then realized I don't HAVE anything to worry about.

It's a weekend but the "Twisted Sisters" out of Fredericksburg are the real deal.

    Default The TC Route

Tailchaser came up with a fairly nice little loop just north of Plano/Frisco:
    • Take Preston (289) north to Celina where the loop begins. Turn left (west) on to 455.
    • Turn right (north) from 455 on to 377 (Pilot Point).
    • Turn right (east) from 377 on to Sherman Street/FM121 (Tioga).
    • Turn right (south) from FM121 on to 3356 (Elmont).
    • Turn right (west) from 3356 on to 455 (middle of nowhere).
    • Take 455 back to Preston / 289.
It's about a 52 mile loop, with some nice twisty "country road" sections -- but it does have a few "boring highway spots" as well. It's not the "Hill Country", but since I live basically at 380 and 423, this route is close to me. I've done it a couple of times, and found it enjoyable.

if you like that route, I suggest you start at 380 just east of Providence and take that up to celina/455. There are some good roads leading up there with some nice turns.
