I live in Texas its been real hot latley and after I drive during the day and shut it off it will not start. I pop the hood and let it cool off for 5 to 10 min it starts up does anyone know what might be causing it not to start. It turns over but its like there is no fuel or sparke it just turns over until it cools off then it fires up. Its a 2000 MX5

Starter Solenoid possibly. Had a Ford Escort that had that problem once when I lived in Vegas.

Cam or crank position sensor? It would help to know the year of the car.

It would help to know if there is no spark or no fuel during the periods it won't start, but I appreciate that's hard to diagnose when you're by yourself. I'm suspecting a fuel pump issue, but it is simply a guess.

Mine was hard to start when hot for a while. I'd try to start it, wait, try again. One problem was that the CAS no longer stayed in place, (the metal bushing somehow was no longer tight in the plastic). I'd have to tap it to get it back in place, and then I'd usually be on my way. Replacing that made it start more often, but didn't totally solve the problem. As it got hotter, I ended up with a problem where the car would die for five to ten minutes. I was thinking coils, but the code for the CPS showed up, and replacing that fixed the problem.

    Hope this helps

If the engine is turning over but will not start when hot it is obviously not part of the starter assembly that is causing the problem. My guess would be the ignition system, either coilpack or CPS, if it is not something as simple as spark plug wires.
