    Default Shifter question

I see there are various shifter kits available for NAs

my co-driver keeps missing the 2-3 shift and finding 1st

I just put a rebuilt tranny in it and hope that takes care of the problem, but wondered if a shifter would help

anyone have any experience with any of these?

    or other brands of shifters?

or other (non-insulting to my co-driver) suggestions?

I have heard that stiffer motor/trans mounts help, but I have never tried them.

Shift from 2nd to 3rd using an open hand. Just push the gear knob forward using the heel and lower palm.

Up the rev limiter so you don't need 3rd?

Remind Bob that it's not a Corvette?

Tell him to buy his own?

Rebuild the stock shifter, it makes a world of difference.
I had the same prob at Hallett YBL.
I was concerned that I was loosing a syncro, but rebuilt and shifted awesome this year.

    Got the parts from Tommy.

Short shifters can be notchy and take some getting used to.

I did a few track days with the stock motor mounts in my '90 with 34k miles at the time, back in 2003. I would go from 2nd to 5th fairly often. Then I added boost and made the same mis-shift on track almost regularly. Added the Mazdaspeed mounts and it never happened again (even after adding a shortened shifter).

I still have the stock motor mounts somewhere in my junk box, and they are not torn or otherwise damaged. Stiffer mounts cured my bad shifts, but a few people I know say they made no difference at all. So my case was either placebo or a huge coincidence on when I learned how to shift on track. Either way, I will not be going back to stock mounts.

I might have to try this. My shifter has never felt good and a quick Google search listed several parts lists for this. I need to do my mounts sometime, too.
