So here's the deal, the new camera takes awesome photos. But the file sizes are 18mb & in what is refered to as "RAW" format. And my dinosour computer is now having issues... again... and doesn't want to read the USB memory card reader! Uuuuuuugggggghhhhhhh!

So I've got roughly 800 images of the event sitting on a 64GB memory card & the computer says, Nope, not going to read that, sorry!
I wouldn't shoot in RAW especially for lots of click like an autocross event. The fastest way to process those is batch process using a photo software like Photoshop CS or lightroom. Next time just set it to medium or large JPEG and you can pull the files straight off the card and post online.

Really prefer the large RAW format.

Often the photos are used for things other than quick posting on the net.

Items like artwork for t-shirts. Also have been kicking around the idea of doing a Region calendar too.

The main issue I have now is a computer that needs to be replaced!

RAW doesn't have different sizes, it's basically the raw data that compose the image. It's great if you're going to spend the time to post process and clean up the picture but if you're just going to convert it to JPEG later, no real advantage.

    Refering to the file size.

And yes, quite often I adjust the exposure before the file is converted to a tiff or used directly in CS4.

I head Microcenter has a sale on the new 13" Macbook Pro with the i5 processor ($999). I think it's time to splurge.

If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

I, for one, am not real keen on autoxmax shooting pics in the raw at SCCA events. There are children, for gosh sakes. Will somebody please think of the children!?!?

You can probably get away with it at BMW events, though.
