Default New here, looking for a great Miata mechanic

Just picked up my first miata, looking for a ( honest ) mechanic to take care of a few things, routine parts replacement and possibly more performance mods. Definately prefer someone with experience in working on SC miata's. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks

    Welcome to the board!

There are a couple of local mechanics... one is highly recommended and one is highly not recommended. I forget which is which since I've done almost everything myself. There's a stealership in the Corinth area (south of Denton) that is good for mechanic work. I forget the name as it has gone under recent ownership change. The others will chime in with the other mechanic that is recommended.

If you'd like to get a little greasy and do some things yourself, there are plenty of people here that would enjoy doing it as part of an event. Most maintenance items on a Miata are cake to do.

Welcome nacra52! The preferred mechanic is Stevan Boyd ( www.miatasolutions.com ) He's is easier to reach by phone than by email BTW. We also have a FI vendor on our forum who is our local 'speed' dealer. His name is Gary Shuhart ( www.trackdogracing.com ). There are also a handful of FI owners on board who may chime in with more info.

There is really not too much different between a N/A and a FI Miata from a Mechanical standpoint. If you get into full engine management, the level of complexity goes up.

The hardest part is finding the specific FI parts like belts, plugs, injectors, etc. Other than that its pretty much the same. The Miata is a great FI platform with strong internals, so you are not working with a fragile platform.

Avoid Tom McWrath's place. What's it called again?

Heard too many horror stories about that biz.

Tom's place is Miata Technologies. I've never personally used his services, but I do believe he set our webmaster's car on fire...

Yeah, I'd stay away from Miata Technologies, and call Gary with Track Dog Racing or Stevan with Miata Solutions if I came across something I couldn't do myself or bribe these guys to do with a case of cheap beer.
