Thread: Replacing an NA starter

    Default Replacing an NA starter

I just finished replacing the starter in my 1993. It is not complicated, but getting to all of the bolts is a PITA.

For anyone else that does it, putting together a tool like in the attached link helped a lot, but it is still hard to squeeze into areas. When you use this tool, the socket wrench will be down by the back of the transmission with the extensions running parallel to the tranny.

It does not mention it in the instructions, but loosen the upper and lower bracket bolts before removing the three main bolts.

Another tip is to toss all the brackets when you're done. Starter needs only the three bolts mounting it to the bell housing. It will make future starter, motor mount and clutch slave swaps easier as well.

Just don't tell all your cone dodger friends or you might not get a glass mug.
    ...and across the line.
