Kids, can we please keep this post on it's original topic. Which is Miata Focus Day at the Ranch April 23

black roadster feel free to start a new post about your fear and loathing of autocross. It has nothing to do with this track day.

    Please drive thru!

So who else mailed Gary a check!

I just did. Maybe this is simple enough for you to understand - I love $100 pieces of cheese. Why haven't you bought yours yet?

If you have not mailed in your money yet, please do ASAP. We are also opening up the event to other cars as we are short 3-4 cars to reach our minimum to hold the event. If you know anyone in the S2000 group or others, please have them contact me ASAP. 214-280-6172.

    Thanks,

$100 = 1 half day at MSR with about 1 1/2 hours of seat time!

You don't need to be a math wiz to see the better deal. Plus, consider all the extra weekends you'll have free!
Autocrossing isn't about the quantity of seat time - if it was, none of us would waste our time on it. It's a different sport, and while it may not appeal to you, not all of us look at it as "x minutes of seat time" per weekend.

Been there 5 times, no harm, lots of fun!
I've never said that MSR isn't a safe environment. It is the safest and most novice friendly track I've been to.

However, I wouldn't encourage anyone to take their street car or daily driver to a track event unless they can afford the consequences should something go wrong. If it does, your insurance may or may not cover you (and they may drop you if they do cover you).

A wise man once said "If you can't afford to walk away from it, don't take it out on the track."

I'll send a check out tomorrow. Also, I have a PCA friend (with a 914) that I'll mention this to.
    Expect my check soon, Gary.

The Ranch is right on my way to a graduation party I am going to that afternoon so I will stop by and spectate.

Do they still have the rule of no passengers on hot laps, only lead and follows?

The Azenis are on the car now, so I won't try to turn MSR into a drift event like the last autoX. 3 yr old all season tires just don't really cut it.

I just have to get the new brakes on before then and bed them in.

I love to come and play. However, do you think my driving skill is up to THIS? I can walk away form my car if SXXX happens, but I don't want to mess up other's.

    GabK,

If you can autocross... if you can handle some very spirited driving with very hard cornering... then Yes.

If you are nervous with driving fast (80ish MPH) and hitting the brakes hard (but not slamming!) to make a corner... then it may not be for you.

You'll learn a LOT about how the car handles and you will have a blast. I know I did when I got to run that track.

Just ride with someone for a couple of laps to get the lay of the track and the line. After that run a couple of laps with someone in the passenger seat to get some instruction time... Then yer on your own!

You may find yourself driving slower with a passenger in the car while driving the track. I know I did. The car handles differently with the extra weight inside.

    Thanks for channelmaniac's kind words.

Gary, I'll check my schedule at work 1st thing in the morning before I drop the check into the mailbox. Perhaps, I give you a call in the morning.

The Miata Focus Day is intended for beginners to novice, not racers. Everyone who can handle high speed, no more than 98 MPH for the highest NA car, and who wants to learn the limits of the car should attend.

Learning the limits on the road is not the place, the track is. If time will allow, have someone drive your car to show you the limit. You will be amazed how much more your car can handle.

The good news is while you are learning not your limits, but your cars limit you have a safe environment to drive in. The track is very technical and will make you a better driver. Following someone better than you is a good way to pick up better driving skills, keep that in mine.

We have probably 1/3 or more that have not been on a track before, so you want be the only one. I guarante, you will learn more than you knew about your car when you leave.
