Thread: Kumho V-710's banned from ER Events!

Default Kumho V-710's banned from ER Events!

    I recieved the following E-mail :

    Dear ER member/participant,

A serious safety issue has come to the attention of the Equipe Rapide
Board of Directors and Club Officers concerning Kumho V710 tires. Because of this concern, effective immediately, Kumho V710 tires will not be allowed to be run at any ER events until further notice.

Since Kumho (and Discount Tire) have been supporting our tire give-away program for the last several years, we have decided to help spread the word about Kumho's voluntary tire recall. See their web site at http://www.kumhotireusa.com/V710.asp for additional info. Below is a direct quote from Kumho:

"Consumers will be given the choice of a free replacement of the ECSTA V710 with either the ECSTA V700 or Victoracer. They will also be provided a free set of the modified ECSTA V710 upon its arrival. "

In addition, below is a quote from the SCCA web site:

"In light of the product's discontinuation of sales and Kumho's effort to collect existing product from consumers, SCCA is suspending, immediately, the eligibility of the Kumho ECSTA V710 for use in Club Racing and Solo events until further notice."

My understanding is that Kumho wants everyone with V710 tires to return
them to wherever they got them from and the sooner they turn in their V710 tires, the sooner they will get free V700 or Victoracers to use AND they will get a free set of V710s when they are available again.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.

    Thanks,

    Gerry Terranova
    President,
    Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club

Yep. I confirmed with Tom Ramey this morning that they will also be banned from Texas Region SCCA events starting this Sunday. Anyone running them will not be passed through Tech.

EDIT: Texas Region SCCA now has a notice up on their main site concerning the V710s.

In addition, there is a chance that cars running any type of Kumho R compounds will be separately scrutinized in Tech for any signs of tread delamination or splice separation, in light of JRW's recent problems with V700s. So check your tires and make sure that they're good to go before coming out on Sunday.
