Do you use the "open" back piece on the case or the solid, waterproof back piece for best sound?

What's the best free editing software?

Open. I like Dashware but I use it with data overlay. On the PC Windows Movie Maker is not bad and it is free.
    M3 is always the answer.

We've been using the open one, and also a case that has a hole in the side for mic port access. Add some cheap ebay mics and aux extensions and you can get pretty awesome sound either from engine bay or exhaust areas.

And I have no issues with windows movie maker, it does splicing and trimming footage pretty well.

The version of Windows Movie maker I have doesn't like the MP4 file that my GoPro2 writes. Hmmmm.

It's an extra step, but a great free program for converting all kinds of file formats is "Super"

Just make sure you download it from their "3rd dedicated server"... there are other ads and bloatware on the site. The correct link is:

I use the open back case as well, but mine is mounted in the cockpit with a wind deflector behind it.

Thanks for the info, everyone!! I used the open back on Sunday and only had a problem with wind noise when I was sitting still - remember how the wind was blowing like a cyclone that day. During the runs, my engine noise drowned out the wind noise, I guess!

You can also squeeze a chunk of foam in the open back, let it push through the holes. Worked pretty good on some 40+mph ski runs last year.

Some company also makes a huge furry back, similar principal as the furry microphone covers the on location news crews use.
