    As a kid I can still remember thinking that if an "atomic" bomb landed within several miles it wouldn't do any good to "duck and cover".
    How naive.......

    Well, it was kind of like the evacuation plan for the Bay area. IIRC, the escape routes were all circles. Big Brother felt that it was better to have everyone driving around in circles than driving out into the desert and dying of thirst.
