Racing Beat is typically the header of choice. Raceland is a cheap copy, but I think they are fine for what they are. Don't get a 4-2-1, whatever you do.
Exhaust is subjective...check out YouTube for several videos.
The PCA TT was when i realized that I need to replace the stock exhaust. It is very hard to hear the engine when traveling with the top down at 85mph. What exhaust would you recommend for my NB - SCCA STR class? And yes, highway drone is a consideration as I'm not one of those boutique racers that trailer my miata to an event!.:discuss:

RB is the best, but as Sammm said, the Raceland knock-off is virtually the same unless the car is tuned to a very high level. You can buy 3 for the price of a new RB.
As for drivability, you'll want a midpipe with both a cat and a substantial resonator to keep drone at a minimum. Good-Win Racing has some nice offerings for midpipes and mufflers. The RB Power Pulse mufflers are also pretty effective.

Does a VVT Miata really benefit from an aftermarket Header since Mazda did quite a nice design on the OEM Header?
Got a Borla muffler in mine has held up well.
Its really the sound that leaves me wanting more.... I know Rogue said that the NB header is good. If i get a borla, do I get to join the 'club'?
Any axle-back will give you more sound than stock. Start there; you can always do a midpipe later. I thought I saw a used RB for NB on FB or CL recently.

I have an Enthuza cat back with a Borla muffler. I have an OBX 4-2-1 header and a high flow cat. The header was a PITA to install.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

'99-00 - replace the header. I got RB. Some Racelands fit, others don't. You do need to make sure you get the proper one for your car, the EGR tube connection is different on various years of NBs.
Track Dog has a nice setup for Mid-Pipe and Muffler, that I used to have. Roadster Sport Mid-pipe w/Cat and RacingBeat single exhaust.
If you really want to hear it, Springfield Dyno is what I have now. No cat, no muffler. (Track Only).

I didn't know that Borla mufflers run $400... pricey!
220, 221, whatever it takes!

I would go with a bespoke system using Burns stainless.
M3 is always the answer.
Newbie ? Would I have any problems at State Inspection time with a Burns muffler?
