I have read up on the install and have been putting it off because of how time consuming it is. I asked TD how much they charge and the $500 quote confirmed what I had read. As the saying goes...No guts, no glory.

It costs a fair bit to install one because it is a long, physical job, even for experienced installers. It will take an inexperienced installer a full 10+ hour day, if not more. You also need to have the correct long drill bit.
Its like a softop; most people are capable of doing it, but it will take a very long, frustrating weekend to get it right if you've not done one before. Unlike a softop, your personal safety depends on a proper install if you ever have to use it!

Yes, you will definitely need the long big drill bit. I did this twice. The first time I did it myself with an extra pair of hands to lift the bar into the car. Measures many times and drill once! No second chance! One side is very close the fuel line. Be careful!. I found it easier to drill one hole from the top, fix the bar in position with that hole and than drill the other three holes from the bottom using the backing plate as template. Trimming the interior pieces takes time and don't rush.
