Thread: Anyone Installing Roll Bar Him/Herself Soon?

Default Anyone Installing Roll Bar Him/Herself Soon?

Like to watch and offer "unskilled help" in stalling a roll bar. Thinking of doing it myself since I am a proud member of the TCB & TLB . However, I am mechanically challenged . Like to at least see one of this operation before I start cutting into my car .

It's on my wish list, but I don't have a definite time frame yet.

    It's a piece of cake...

    My brother & I did my 92 Black & Tan's rollbar...

    Three simple rules:

    1. RTFM BEFORE YOU START
    2. Measure twice
    3. Cut once

The hardest part on mine (Frenzy 4 point roll bar - yes, Warren used to make rollbars) was that the sandwich plates were drilled a little off and the holes wouldn't like up right... I took 'em to a co-worker's house (he's a metalsmith) and got 'em fixed right up.

I've done them and depending on when, I might be able to lend a hand.

I have tin snips for cutting the alluminum rear deck and a dremel for the interior panels.

Air tools will make the install go much faster. Also, order of how you bolt it in is crucial. Don't drill any holes until the bar is bolted in to the existing threaded holes. (lower seat belt reel and upper seat belt mount on a sport)
    ...and across the line.

    That might be cool...

I'll do my best to get Chris the spec miata guy to show up and you can ask all teh questions you want... Anything you want to know how to do to a Miata he's probably done...

(Including an M2 sport Rollabr install on his own car)

And yeah, we've got all the required goodies... A couple compressors and air tools, dremels, welders, and about anything else you could come up with.... (except a lift... I want a lift...)

A day that we can take your car apart to see what makes it tick?

I'm always up for a little wrenching... depending on how long my "honey-do list" is. I'd really like to witness /help with some rollbar installs.

Now *that* I may not have.... I do remeber it being a pain drilling those back couple holes on the last install. We had a long undersized bit, and then this little hole widening thing... Worked pretty well, but wasn't the cleanest way of doing it....

Anyone have a spot they know of that sells that black door edge guard stuff? I want to get some of that to clean up the trimmed interior parts.

    rx7gslse,

I definitely interested in coming to observe/help with your rollbar install. It is an hour drive from my house, but I drive longer just to AX anyway . My email is [email protected]. Please drop me a line when you have the date. I'll be there as long as I don't have to work or AX that weekend. Sorry, that is my priority .

Don't worry, Treibenschnell, droptop and Iain, I will definitely knock at your door when the time comes.

I like the idea of tech day or a roll bar install demo day. I am sure we can have a install party by getting all our cars together to do the install at the same time. Perhaps, get a goup buy on the bar too.

I like the sound of a group-buy on the roll-bars. Let's keep this in mind.

we were talking about that on the other board...

they don't do group buys on the rollbars, but they will do group shipping to save ya some $$$..
