Thread: New Battery

    Default New Battery

My battery's bit the dust... left the sidelights on (must wire in a buzzer) and it won't hold a charge now. (Left it on 1A charge for 96 hours, it finally reached 12.8V, tried to start the car - no joy - and it went straight back to 10.5V. Verdict - dead.)

It's my daily driver - I'm having to get my wife to take me into work! A red top optima seems the best option but I've heard stories of a four week wait to get one. Autozone reportedly do a duralast version of the westco so that's my option at the moment unless someone knows where to get an optima really fast...

    Any of you replaced batteries?

Is anybody using a lightweight battery, like a motorcycle battery? Some of the BMW guys are using these b/c the stock battery weighs around 50lbs.

Yep autozone, is a relabled westco. Exactly the same battery. Autozone for around $70. Battery's plus on Camp Bowie wanted over 120 for a battery. I think it was westco.

I put the relabeled VatoZone one in my spec... works great... you pay tax to buy local or pay shipping to mail order... it's a wash.

i just replaced mine with one from the dealer for 90 bucks, i figure it's worth the extra because the original lasted 10 years and the autozone batterys never last more than 3

The only thing, is that I have heard the dealers dont sell the sealed AGM battery that the miata originally comes with. The autozone battery is. Do you know what kind you got? And what dealer, that could be a good source if someone needs one.

I got mine from the dealer just south of Denton a few years ago. It's the right battery. $90 sounds familiar
