Thread: So Cold.

  1. #1

    Default So Cold.

Ever since it has gotten COLD the car takes forever to warm up if it warms up at all. On monday it finally got warm ( as in the temp gauge rose to the first line) once i travelled from marsh and PGBT to 635 and PBGT.
Last night driving the long way home oconnor to luna to service road of pgbt at josey to marsh, it never seemed to warm up at all. Only once while sitting at the light at josey and pgbt. I let it idle to warm up for about 10 minutes and then a total of 45 minutes driving.
It does idle at about 1750 rpms when i first turn it on while it is cold.
    Anyone one have an idea?
    Thanks

Check your t-stat - It may be stuck in the open position.

I Ogree. Don't forget to buy the gasket too. Some people take this as an opportunity to get a 180 degree instead of the 160.

it's going to run rich (especially in this cold weather) since the engine never warms up. I ended up getting a EGR CEL when mine was acting up. it's a quick operation to swap it out..just have some extra anti-freeze or distilled water on hand.

Personally, I've never had a thermostat fail to open. I've replaced every single one because they wouldn't close and allow the engine to warm up.

    I must be lucky.

When I first got my '92 it had failed in the open position thankfully! It was doing what at Dyingbreed was reporting, poor car would never heat up!

But I did have one fail closed in my youth, it was sad...... It was a GM motor, maybe it's old GM thing??

I did spent the extra $$$ recently to get a Motorad New Fail Safe® Thermostat for my Cadillac!

I am going to do it this weekend. After it warmed up a bit it seemed fine(weather wise) but today it took it awhile and still seemed sort of cool. So tomorrow after work and an oil change to boot. I may try to crawl under the car and do the tranny fluid as well.
