Completely off topic but are you still able to do state inspections? If so, I need to swing by before the end of the month. Miata was borderline HC last year and I am hoping it will pass again this year.

You're not FI so what's going on under that hood? Just got a new cat and my car went from barely passing last year to very little emissions.

I replaced the cat in California so it's only about 3-4 years old with maybe 40k miles? Still I got a line on a replacement cat. A new Bosch 4 wire O2 sensor was installed right before the cat.

I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the duals. Mine passed fine last year with the turbo, so I hope it still does with my new duals. Hard to believe it'd be the cat if you have less than 40k on it. My FM cat has passed the last 3 years with room to spare.

both the manager and asst manager (mike and robert, respectively) would prolly do the same as me. remember, i didnt do anythign illegal, iwas just a lil cooler than most, letting you in on some inside tips and what not.

    I'm confused...

I can take this as either,

    1. You don't do inspections and I need to go back to your old place and as for Mike or Robert.

    OR

    2. Mike and Robert are the managers at your new place and they can do the inspection for me.

I know I'm gonna take a bashing for suggesting this but here goes....
Put some alcohol in with your gas before you go to get it inspected. It will burn very clean. I have not ever had to do this but I know of people that have done it and they claim it works. Good Luck!

That's in the RX-7 Club's second gen section on how to pass an FI rotary at the inspection site... works like a charm for them.

Interesting. Is it possible to damage the engine? What kind of alcohol?

BTW, I wouldn't ever do this. Just curious to know the process.

I have been told just rubbing alcohol. Maybe racing alcohol would work. I'm sure Iain will chime in soon with a couple of pages on the subject

They make a product called Heat that is used to get water out of gas. It is mostly alcohol so I really don't think it would hurt anything. Sounds like you just want to buy a new cat
    Good Luck.......

Hey Black where is your timing set? Back in the day when I had the POSII it needed to be set back to 10 degrees for inspection purposes, or it would puke up a few too many hydrocarbons! I had about 155,000 on the OEM and it would pass with flying colors!

I tried a can of Heat and didn't have much luck... I ended up setting the timing back to normal and putting on a cat that was good... cleared it right up!

Nope. I don't know a damn thing about putting alcohol in your gasoline to help it pass emissions.

Timing is at 10 Degrees BTDC. I think I'll run it through to see if it passes. If it doesn't, I'll get the cat and retest.
