Thread: Aluminum wheel repair

    Default Aluminum wheel repair

Has anyone had any luck with having bent wheels repaired locally. I have a set of cheap rims that I bent about a year back, and I'm too cheap to replace the two that are bent.

I work for Wheels America. They can fix about anything you can bring them. You should give them a call 214-330-9866.

I'm too cheap to go that route. I guess I'll just replace the $100 rim that is bent too bad to balance.

Are you looking for 14" Autocross wheels? If so, I can help!

I have a set of 16" rims that I got to run on the street, so I didn't chew up my azenis running around town. Unfortunately a big pothole at the I-35 split in Denton ate one pretty bad.

I kind of fixed the rim using the BFH method. Only time will tell how well straightening a rim with an 8# hammer will work.

It will work quite well. If its bent really bad you'll have to heat it to keep it from cracking as you pound on it. If you have a dial indicator you can get it really close. Just jack the car up, put the wheel (no tire) on the front and spin it with the dial indicator on it. Most dents have a high spot on each side a low spot in the middle. Apply heat and BFH until the dial indicator reads less than 0.030" (TIR) in the radial direction.
