Thread: Hardtop Side Latch Question

  1. #1

    Default Hardtop Side Latch Question

Seems like I remember a discussion in the past about not really needing the side latches for the Miata hardtop. Can anybody enlighten me? Will the windshield header latches and the frankenstein bolts at the back secure it adequately?

My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

    Yes it will hold.

Might be more rattles, less rigidity or more wind noise but it will hold.
    ...and across the line.

I drove about 1500 miles without side-latches without a problem, but I added them because I felt a little extra piece of mind was worth $20.

Anyone now if the disintegrating Hardtop incident at Hallett was latch related?

Maybe I'll figure out a way to zip-tie it on

I've been running back and forth to events with just the front latches. It hasn't been a problem.

Thanks, guys. I can now confirm that the side latches are not absolutely necessary.

Not yet. It's on my TO DO list for this winter. (Gotta have SOMETHING to do in the off season!)

COPYCAT!!! No more weight loss for your car! You need ballast b/c of that engine.

Seriously though, the top comes out no problem. It should only take around 30 minutes.

It takes that long just to get all those 10mm nuts off under the lip!

Gotta take all the trim and carpet out. Not all of our cars are stripped out race cars.
