If it's not a scam it's already gone.

    SCAM and a half...

When I was shopping this past summer. There was an '04 Mazdaspeed listed for $7000. Knowing it was likely a scam, I sent an e-mail anyway.

The response was "I'm moving overseas, which is why it's so cheap. I've already left the country, so you can wire the money to my account..."

Um, yeah, I'll get right on that.

I shop for cars weekly, even though I have the car I love. I was looking at 2 different STI's with a low asking price. I sent emails to two different email addresses, and received the same ridiculous speech about moving overseas....wife sick......wire me the money.
Unless they list an active phone number, and will let you look at it right away, it's a scam.

def. a good thing to know, not that I'd wire anyone money for anything, esp. a car I hadn't seen...but still good info!

I listed some wheels from another car in the classifieds w/my email addy. Lo and behold, I got a strange and persistent response from someone with a limited grasp of english and/or Vienna sausages for fingers. I played along and the deal was this: "My associate will come by to inspect and pick up the wheels in a few days, but go ahead and give me all of your bank account info and I'll wire you the money." I strung him along and played dumb to the point where he got really pissy and finally stopped sending me emails. Good times. Apparently the Nigerian Money Scam has hit the used car market...
