Thread: Winter Projects?

  1. #1

    Default Winter Projects?

Now that the season is over, do any of you autocross junkies have plans to upgrade/replace/refurbish your ride?
What's left of a '96 Miata with stock clutch.
My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

Jobs I've got on my list:

    - Pipe, joint (it's a brake bias valve not drug perephenalia )
    - MS motor mounts
    - Al shifter bushing
    - Cruise control delete (swapping with Jerret)
    - A/C delete
    - 225/45/15 Hankooks for S2K next year
    - 15x8 949 Racing wheels
    - Probably need to consider new brakes
    - waiting and hoping Kumho will release a 225/45/13 V710 before the spring
    - Possibly a megasquirt ECU if I can get off my ass and get started on it
    - I'm sure Mark is happy to see that I haven't put "99/00 engine" on the list this winter

I don't autocross at the moment, but I have a lot of plans.

    1. Shocks-Springs install

    2. Strut tower brace

    3. Roll bar or style bar

    4. All new brakes, more than likely

    5. Convert interior to all black

    6. Rip out a lot of junk that I don't need

    7. Lots of tinkering

    8. Spark plugs and wires

    9. New exhaust system, probably complete

    10. A few little tidbits all over the car, including some chrome, new steering wheel, etc.

    11. AC Delete

Hopefully I can find the time to do all this stuff!

Looks like I may be pulling the shocks out of the POSIII and having them rebuilt. Seem to be leaking from the adjuster????

Hrmmm... looks like I'm shopping for wheels & shocks this winter.
Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org

I need to install my 1.8 rear brakes, and I have a smaller SC pulley that will go on one of these days.

First thing I have to do is get it back to street legal so I can get it inspected next month. What a pain!
The car feels like shit on the OEM computer.

Then, I have to put everything back to run on the SDS and take off the legal exhaust and put the race exhaust back on. Again, what a pain!

Next, I have an oil catch can to install so that Miatamoto won't burn up my car again next time he drives it . Found a really nice aluminum one at a karting supply house on the net for like $18! (Just kidding, Thomas).

New goodies to install this winter are:
Adjustable cam gears (just to play with on the dyno )
    Koni Race shocks (front only)
700# springs front and 375# springs rear
    Shift light and rpm switch
What's left of a '96 Miata with stock clutch.
My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

I swear I wasn't trying to burn your fast car to the ground!

So cam gears are CSP legal? Have you considered an underdrive pulley or is that bad with the LTW flywheel?

A little bit of leakage from the adjusters is okay. The big question would be if there is any oil on the shafts.

As for me, I plan to vacuum the carpet, and take the car to the dealer to fix a rattle in the steering wheel hub.

I'm either doing a major foam-ectomy or buying a car I fit it!

Purdy sure the cam gears are legal, now. Correct me if I'm wrong, somebody.
I've had the underdrive pulley on the car for several years now.
