    Recent oil change?

Fram filters have been known to do that.

Yep... that is low. Have you done an oil and filter change since first noticing it? I have seen significant differences in pressure when using different brands of filters... perhaps a bad filter would cause the really low reading?

For reference, I have a '92 with 123k miles, OEM filter, and Mobil 1 5w-30. I see 25-30 at hot idle, and around 45-50 at 3k.

    no haven't changed oil

thinking of trying a WIX filter (have used them for years on other cars) and maybe 20-50

but don't think that will make any difference

That's what I used to see but after getting my motor back from John Day, my oil psi is normally around 15 at hot idle and only 30-40 max at 3k rpm when hot. Around 30 cold idle and 60 at 3k rpm when cold. I understand the oil sending units were not always calibrated the same making different Miatas read different but not the same unit changing after rebuild. Still using the same oil and such.

    Just an FYI

my 93 had very low oil pressure -- 5 or so at idle, maybe 30 at high revs

changed out sender and no change

installed mechanical gauge and it reads well within Mazda normal specs

    dash gauge bad

Does that mean you have an extra, working sender? Cheap? You have PM

Mine has died on me - verified the gauge works and the car has correct oil pressure on a manual gauge.

You guys are lucky, my 96 has the stupid telltale. Only know of pressure problem after piston has gone into orbit.
