Thread: F'd Up Paint

    Default F'd Up Paint

So this has happened the last three times I've washed the S2K.

Wet car, wash with light car wash/soap mixture, rinse.

    Result:

Tons of huge water spots embedded into the clearcoat on the hood and part of one fender. (looks like water spots but its permenant)
No its not the water and no its not the soap.

You can tell the car has been repainted on the section that it happened to, but Jesus it should be able to not screw up from having water on it.

    Any ideas?

Silly question #1: Are you drying the car or just allowing it to air dry?

Nope, dried it with a microfiber. Everywhere else except the upper passenger side corner of the hood and fender came out mirror-shiny.

Are you washing it while it's hot? (The car/paint that is)

Sounds like something from the washing process is sticking to the car in the area that has been re-painted. I would probably try to clay bar it and through a new coat of wax on it.

Sounds like the body shop skimped on the clear coat when they repainted the thing.

Could be a surface contaminate (old wax, buffing compound, etc)... I'd next try to gently rub the area with a clay bar and see if it removes it (you'll need to re-wax the area you clay bar)... try it in a small, hidden area if you can.

+1 on the clay bar idea just make sure the metal is cool

Yea the repaint was definately skimped on.

I'll try the claybar or some rubbing compound but I'm not sure that'll get it...

Luckily so many S2K owners get CF hoods that OEM ones go cheaper than a repaint.

    Fixed!

But not even the original hoods off of the same year model will be a guarenteed match. Paint fades differently depending on the previous owner. Whether it had a sheltered life in a garage or sat out in the sunlight.

Hard water can also cause etching of the clear coat.
Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

Are you sure it's been repainted? I bought a car that had been parked next to a sprinkler and the rear quarter had spots in it, but it was also on the glass. My neighbor (a body guy) had me use lime away on it. It worked.

His S2K is black so it's a little less prone to color mismatch than say red or burgundy.

Yea, its been repainted though, its got the slight orange-peely look if you look really close while the sides and back are mirror finishes when they're polished. Might've just been from hail damage since its only on the top part of one fender too.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, its pretty retarded looking so I'm gonna get to work on trying /everything/ until I find something that works.
