I like the X5 suggestion.... I don't like either of the starting suggestions...

Heck, even a 5 series touring woudl be better than the 3...

Look at; 4 runner or even used landcruiser if he wants to be fancy..
What about something like a Denali?
    Cx-7?
even an Infinity FX woudl be better than the LExus...

Doesn't really matter... As long as I get to make fun of somebody for something, I'm good.

Of course, an X5 holds less stuff, rides worse, and doesn't handle as well as a 5-series wagon. A 540i sport wagon with the manual would be a perfect Sport Utility Vehicle......

You guys are really missing the boat here... he needs something that says "I'm not f***ing around here, pal!"

I mean, does the 540 or the X5 have room for a world-famous vigilante with a machine gun?

I don't like either choice, and I'm not gonna vote.

C'mon guys... let's take this one a little more seriously... I mean, for f***'s sake, this was seriously considering an RX400... I think we need an intervention here.

And with that, He could justify his sticker that says "If you want to get laid, join a band."

I don't think either choice is a great one, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the BMW.

No one sees the car a musician comes to the gig in. Unless he picks someone up and I think she'll be less likely to bolt if he's in the BMW.

Better to look like a yuppie rocker than a than a guy in his wife's SUV.

if there where other choices...Audi All-Road, Speed's S4 was a nice wagon, I think I'd go with an WRX STi Wagon.

If you had any idea how bored I am at work right now, you'll understand.

And if you're going to include me in that, you'll have to include yourself

Interesting comment from anyone driving a Miata -- the car we all love, but know that everyone else sees as a "chick car"...

srivendel, your friend has his answer -- neither one. I agree with everyone else that a "band hauler" is going to get beaten up, and I think he'd be better off with
    • a cheap Cute Ute, or
    • a truck with a camper shell, or
    • any old car and an inexpensive enclosed trailer to pull behind it
the trailer being the best option as far as I'm concerned. But if he just has to have one of those two vehicles, ya gotta at least go for the BMW...

What, you don't like the STi?

I'm not 100 percent sure if it's available in the US,
    they are in the EU.
If not, you could always build one from a standard WRX Wagon. lol

Not availabe in the US. I did a search and verified it. WRX Wagon's (just the regular 2.0 liter,227 hp) would be a great choice, as I have been considering one myself. For about $5,000, it can have matched specs to an STi through Vishnu tuning or someone could spend $7K+ on an Sti swap.

Mr. 29 years old doesn't necessarily need a vehicle he can beat up. When I haul my drums in there cases, (5 drums cases, a coffin, and my cymbal case) I can fit it all in my dad's pontiac grand prix with the rear seat out and I don't damage anything.
