Thread: Kumho Tire Prices

    Thumbs down Kumho Tire Prices

Actually saw a semi-interesting e-mail in the Texas Region Mailing list from our own automax.
Kumho Tire U.S.A. will increase tire prices effective February 1, 2008. Kumho’s prices will increase up to eight percent, depending on the tire line and model.

David Hudrlik, vice president and director of sales for Kumho, cited continuing price increases for raw materials and rising transportation costs as the reason for the increase. Kumho last raised prices on August 1, 2007.

Bummer. Guess I picked the right time to stop buying dedicated autocross tires. the Toyo RA-1s I just bought were only $162 each in 255/40-17 size.

I waited too long! The close out prices on the 245/35/18s went away. They're back up to $270/ea.

This kind of is all making question my level of commitment to the 2008 Season, I may just become a slacker like Altiain.

I wonder if Hoosier is going to raise their prices, too? This sport is getting more and more expensive

I predict increased attendance in street tire class I was thinking about being cheap and going for the $450 a set RS2's for the Elise instead of $700 for the RE-01R's.

I don't want your sloppy seconds!

If it was 4 for $100 I might have bought them, but at $50 each for 80 run tires...

    I'm too cheap for that.

Yeah, I've seen how you drive. You might want to set some money aside for fiberglass repair.

Great, I finally get into R-compounds and all of the cool kids are going back to street tires. Sigh.

It'll still be cheaper than a 4 wheel off excursion into a tire wall on a road course Mr. "I'm too cool to autocross anymore"

Yea, I was nearly crying as I took the Sawzall to the fenders!

I have seen some really cool fender flairs for Miatas. Are large flares legal in Street Prepared, or only the Prepared cars?

    Per 2007 SCCA 15.2.A.:

Fenders and bumpers may be modified for tire clearance. This includes the portion of a hood which serves asa fender/wheel well, where applicable. This does not permit modifications to the chassis or bodywork inboard of the verticle plane of the hub-wheel mounting face. Flares may be added although tires may extend beyond the bodywork. Replacement of complete hood, flared fenders, or quarter panels is prohibited.

So you can add a bolt on Flare but can't replace the fender with a flared fender? That seems odd to me.

It's a cost saving rule... See... if fenders were "open" then everyone would fab custom fenders about the thickness and weight of a piece of paper. If you didn't do it, then you'd be disadvantaged.
Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org
