I'll be doing many apex events this year.

My goal for 2008 is to get my race license through NASA, though, so I might be doing more NASA events.

If I am reading correctly its $155 for a one day HPDE at NASA?

    Do they rent helmets?

Don't mean to drift. But, for the grass hopper, can one of you explain the difference of NASA events and Apex etc.?

    From http://www.nasatx.com/Timetrials.asp:

"NO ROLLBAR OR CAGE REQUIRED. JUST YOUR M95 or HIGHER HELMET"

"Requirements: Advanced HPDE, Regular Autocross Experience, Instructors, or Race Licensed Drivers only."

    Hmmmm.

I don't think NASA rents helmets, but I know that MotorSports Ranch does. They rent driving suits and transponders as well.

    You are correct.

I e-mailed them and they stated that its best to bring your own, just in case MSR sells out.

If you read the fine print you'll find the following:

"all HPDE 3 driver must be able to drive a 1:39 or faster at Hallett"

Can you believe that, it really says that... really!!!

    my .02

NASA runs several wheel to wheel racing series and also HPDE

the events I have been to were OK (schedule, how friendly, etc) but because they have so many run groups, you typically get 4 twenty minute track sessions per day

Apex is only for fun and to teach you how to drive better

Apex (with the new 3 group format) give you a couple of more track sessions per day, and limit the number of cars on track during a session to a max of 16

and John Holmes (the co-owner) is nuts on being safe and following the passing rules
2009 MX-5 STR and track toy
    2003 Z06 -- Not a Miata, but 3200# and 400 RWHP is fun
    OTM -- 2012 Sierra, 2016 Impala (Appliances)

I couldn't agree more with what you said.

There was lots of open track in the last session I attended.
