Thread: How hard to swap tops?

Default How hard to swap tops?

How hard is it to swap a new top onto an existing frame and then into the car? I've read a few write ups on a direct frame drop in but not when the top needs to be moved. I found a black vinyl top with rear plastic window brand new in box on craigslist for $75 and was thinking about changing mine since it's got a few holes in it. I prefer glass but for $50 or 75$ the price is right provided the labor isn't too terrible.

So you are talking about replacing the top with a new one? I just replaced my top, (leaving the frame on the car,) and it took about six hours, taking my time and not really paying attention to directions -otherwise it would have taken a lot less time. A new rain rail was already riveted to the new top, though, otherwise it would have taken significantly longer, especially since the rain rail on the old top was in pretty bad shape, and cracked more when moved.

It wasn't very difficult for the most part, just tedious to get at some of the nuts, bolts, and rivets.

    Hope this helps.

It really is not that difficult to do. Just be sure you have all of the rivets and what not you need before starting. Like Mike said the new rain rail will make it a lot quicker, and yours may or may not be in the best shape. Heck if you would like to come over some time I would be more than happy to help you out with it.
