    Default Wide Angle Camcorder

I have a 7 year old Cannon camcorder with a wide angle lens that died. Cannon wants $145 + shipping to repair it. I thought I'd see what replacements were available before shipping it to CA.

I know a lot of folks have started using digital cameras but the angle of view is not wide enough to suit me. (Mine will show both B pillars from the mount I rigged on the roll bar.) A helmet cam might work, but I also want immediate replay. I want to see what I recorded right after my run without having to haul a laptop around.

    Any serious suggestions are appreciated.

I use a Panasonic digicam that has a wide Leica lens (28mm equiv on wide side) and it shoots in 16:9 format. It's plenty wide even on the back glass right behind my head in the Elise.

The video from Joe's point and shoot Panasonic looks great. Much better than the Nikon I have.

How about a model number on that Panasonic digicam?

Mine is now discountinued but there are new ones in the line that are similar with new gadgets.

Mine is the FX-07. Just look for the ones with a wide angle Leica lens. Battery life is good too if you remember to turn it off after the runs.

It possible weights several lbs instead of several ounces of the new ones!? I think Polaroid is coming out with a "shirt pocket camcorda".
