Be careful with ANY data you put out there. Listing pets and their names, parents, and other information can put you at risk of identity theft.
Think about it this way. One of the secret questions you can have for your bank or other online accounts is "what is your pet's name" or "what is your mother's maiden name"... How many people can you actually find that information out for?
There are social networking sites and geneology sites that can help you find out just about anything you'd need to know to steal someone's identity.
