Unhappy Honda S2000 gone after ’09 model year

Honda confirmed on Monday that the S2000 sports car is done after the 2009 model year.

I'm thinking it will return later like the Camaro. Honda has more of a racing pedigree than Toyota and I don't see how the top two Japanese automakers will go very long without a sports model. Should be good news for Mazda until then.

They'll probably come out with a hybrid sports car.
    ...and across the line.

    Unhappy A real shame

Yeah, I just read that. VERY sad day. The S2000 is a great addition to the automotive world. It also made a nice "halo car" for Honda, giving the brand something other than an econobox manufacturer presence. Ah well...

I agree with Nails that the demise of the S2000 should help Miata sales a little. The cars aren't "interchangable", but you aren't left with many choices if you want a nimble, well-built, reasonably priced convertible sports car.

Most manufacturers are axing the convertables from their line up. Next year you will be hard pressed to find a new convertable other than the Miata.

Sad to hear. I'd still like to own an S2k some day.

its kind of cool how the miata is so successful. No matter what the economy does, automotive trends, technology, or whatever...the Miata perseveres. All my friends have s2k's now too, lol.

So does that mean that they'll kill plans for the S3000?

I recall loving the PT Cruiser until I saw it in person. It should have been bigger.

Honda also killed the NSX replacement too! Very sad indeed! Not that I will ever have enough $$$ to get one, other than wining the Lotto. I hope/guess that Honda is holding off the S3000 until things turn around.
