Wow.. I had to check my profile to be sure... Infractions from TC, Bean, Majik, and POS, but no Sammm.

My reverse gear is hard to put in too. I have Red Line in the turret and trans.

Stop trying to get this thread back on the rails.... BTW, Sammm... if you infract somebody 50 points worth, it makes them miserable for 24 hours until the points expire...

Back to your question on the transmission, improving on your oil will help a lot. We sell both Red Line and Motul and never saw much of an improvement with the Red Line. Motul uses more Ester base which is the slick agent all synthetics use to improve performance and what makes these oils more expensive. With the Motul you will feel improvement in shifting, especially in the morning and cold starts in about 100 miles. Ever car and customer who has switched to the Motul has agreed with these comments.

    Hope we can help.

That's great info Gary! Is this a big project to drain and fill? I've only had experience doing this on classic VW transaxles.

I know nothing of infractions and such. I'm boring around here.

It's pretty easy, but cumbersome. Make sure that you can loosen the fill plug before you drain it. Otherwise, you might drain it and not be able to fill it. You will need to buy a little hand-pump to re-fill it. Trickyrix probably has several pumps around the house that he can loan to you.

You might also do your diff oil, too, since you're down there. The fuel filter is always a blast, too, if you are in the mood.

+1 My shifting improved in my 91 with 184,000 miles on the clock when I switched to the Motul. However, shifting into 2nd and 4th there is a definate thunk until the transmission has reached operating temperature. Hard to describe, but it feels very notchy like pulling back a bolt action rifle. The shifter slips into and out of the other gears without that clunk feeling... I assume this will result in a transmission replacement someday. But as I don't have the funds for that at the moment, I'll just call it "character."

I must not be trying hard enough. I don't think I have ever received an infraction.
