Thread: The Great Pumpkin Rally

  1. #1

    Default The Great Pumpkin Rally

    It’s the Great Pumpkin Rally, Charlie Brown!

    * Rally Day: Saturday, October 23rd, 2010
    * Starting Place: Starbucks, 2779 Ridge Road, Rockwall, TX just off of I-30
    * Registration: 9:00 to 9:45am on Rally Day
    * Rally School: 9:45 to 10:15am
    * Starting Time (1st Car out): 10:30am plus your car number
    * Length: 120 miles (~3 hours)
    * Finish: Downtown Paris at the Festival of Pumpkins with street vendors, shopping, antique shops and more.
    * Rally type: 1) TSD (time-speed-distance, but to the second and 1/10th of a mile). 2) Traditional sign-hunt.
    * Route: It’s the same as last year. If you ran it last year, you must run it as a TSD this year.
    * Vehicles: Sports Cars, Classic Cars, Antiques, Hot Rods, Cruisers, Speedsters, anything with 4 wheels that’s street legal is OK in this Rally. We had two Miatas in our last rally. Team Zoom Zoom was runner-up in the Team competition.
    * Rally Fee: $30.00 SCCA Members: $20.00 $5.00 late fee if not preregistered at tinyurl.com/GPR10msr .
    * Awards for the usual SCCA Classes, in both 1) TSD and 2) sign-hunt.
    * Rallymasters: Richard and Juanita Miller

    If you want to try your hand at "Time-Speed-Distance" rallying, bring a stop-watch and a calculator, or just 'guestimate' and see how close you can come to the assigned speed.

    If not, just enter the sign-hunt and try to figure out Richard's puns. It's fun.

    All on paved roads, at legal speeds and … get ready for a fun morning on the road, and more fun at the Festival of Pumpkins in Paris!

    See the rally flyer at www.texasscca.org/rally.html for more information on the Great Pumpkin Rally and other events.

    Hey sccarally I have a couple of questions since I finally do not have a conflict on my calendar!

    I know my odo is not accurate. In TSD is it legal to use a GPS to monitor speed? I also thought of making a corrected speed chart ahead of time. Would that be more manageable?

    I am a member of SCCA, but my nav isn't. Do I still get the cheaper fee?

    I'm registered!!!

    One of these days, the schedule will work out so that Ms.-cerned and I will be able to do some rallies.
    On the track, I am fearless.
    If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

    Yes, GPS is legal. Some people who are really good at this sport say it doesn't work very well they way we do things, but it will keep you close. The problem is every time the assigned speed changes, you need to record how early or late you are NOW, and reset the GPS to start keeping a new speed for you. All without losing any time! But it should be fun to try.

    Yes, we consider a car to be an "SCCA car" if any one of the occupants is an SCCA member.

    We look forward to seeing you!

    Since you are using KK for your codriver, I suppose the brakes will work properly everytime and in every direction.

    I think it is only right that SHE drives and POS navigates.

    Nothing. The POSIV has an issue with a back brake dragging.

    Looking like me and my son will be doing this one in the Z4 as first timers. Considering just doing the sign hunt. Father and son are both dyslexic and attention deficit. Stop watches, calculations and and directions will be a hoot for us together.
    I drive to fast to worry about my cholesterol.

    We are going to skip the stop watch part of this rally since we are newbies still.

    Looking forward to meeting you! (Keep you kid away from my daughter. )

    If your son is minor make sure you get the minor waver all filled out and notarized before the event.
