Go figure... I just be an ignorant fool!
John Garcia was babbling on in Tech about how some el cheapo Chinese made helmets have an SA2000 or M2000 sticker on the outside, but no actual Snell certification label on the inside. So according to him (and he is the Chief of Tech, unfortunately): no Snell label, no helmet, no matter what the helmet says on the outside.

So make sure and pull back the padding and look inside for a holographic Snell label. If it ain't got one, don't buy the helmet. BTW, this may be well hidden under the padding - took me a minute just now to find the label on my own helmet.

Unfortunately, the small race shops don't tend to carry a lot of stock. When I went to Bobby Archer Motorsports last spring, they only had two helmets near my size for me to try on... and one of them was a $1000 forced-air induction OMP! Little more than what I needed!

It blows... blows cooler air into your helmet, that is.

Forced-air induction helmets are typically designed for use in sedan racing, where the driver is in an enclosed cockpit that can get quite hot. These helmets allow the driver to receive a constant supply of cool, fresh(er) air.

Considering I reember reading somewhere that the Corvette C5-R (ALMS GTS cars) cockpit temps could reach up to 140 degrees, I think I'd want a forced-air helmet in something like that!

Telemetry during Sebring 12 hours was showing 130+ in the footwell on the GTS cars... OUCH!

Wouldn't that typically leave the patient feeling a little bloated? :P
