It seems to me that the author didn't really say the internet wasn't useful or just strictly a fad. He does have some good points that a CD-ROM or online webinar probably isn't as efficient as a real teacher in a real classroom. I've taken some online classes in my undergrad and masters program and I really don't think I get as much out of it as a live classroom environment. Also as far as government goes it's been 13 years and we're still not doing online voting.
