    Default The verdict is in

    Just got back from Gary's.
2 cylinders are fine of the other two one is leaking 62% and the other 58%.
    See TC, I really couldn't keep up...lol
So, I am checking Monday on getting my head rebuilt.
Altain, tell Lugnut John thanks for pointing out my problem when you see him would ya.
I'll bet my autocross times will get better:)

    Will do, Billy.

Sorry to hear the results from the leakdown, but the bright side is that at least you've located the source of the problem. You can't fix it if you don't know what's broke.

No doubt, once I get it done it will be like I have a new car!
Gary said he would be suprised if I was getting 80HP right now.
I am sort of excited to see what it's supposed to run like.
I will be taking it to John Day for the work.

Yea, my 94 was all clogged up with carbon deposits when I bought it, having no idea what it was supposed to feel like. Now after replacing a bunch of stuff, & seafoaming the hell out of it she runs like a top....& i can tell you, it feals real good!(when shes not overheating of course)

If the two cylinders are adjacent, could be a leaking head gasket between them.

As well as you were doing keeping up with that 400 horsepower car you were following, I'm gonna have to vote with Merv on the leaking gasket...

Gary said it seemed that most of leakage sounded like the exhaust side.
the two cylinders leaking are adjacent, i am guessing they will be replacing the head gasket when they rebuild the top end.
I am also going to have them replace the timing belt and water pump while its apart, since I am at 55K.
Is there anything else that I should replace that I haven't mentioned with the timing belt change?

    Thanks.

Have them replace the crank seal... It's dirt cheap compared to the labor... when the head is rebuilt they'll put in new cam seals...

..and the cam seals, althought they may get replaced with the valve job.

You might also look at all your coolant hoses and replace as necessary. Also, replace your drive belts.

I am droping the car off with John this Sunday and should be back in the saddle in 1 to 2 weeks.
Thanks for the suggestions on the timing parts needed.
And thanks to TC,Altain, and Jugnut John for noticing the problem in the first place.
I may be able to run regular unleaded now without the engine wanting to come out of the hood :)

I am getting the top end rebuilt
    a new timing belt
    new water pump
    and crank seal
He is removing and re-installing the head

    The cost will be....
$1,056. if there are no burnt valves, each burnt valve would be an addition $7.50 to $8.00

    let the passing out begin.

Look at it this way, Billy - the car will be making so much more power when you get it back, it will feel like you did get it supercharged!

LOL Funny that you say that, I was thinking the exact same thing.
Still though riding in Gary's car gives me perma-grin

I think it's a fair price to not have to do anything but drop it off and pick it up.
