Default "ask Mazda" on mazdausa.com SUCKS

    Ok, I used Mazda's littel "contact us" in an attempt to figure out exactly what turbo they use on the MSMs. I asked this question;

"Can you tell me what model of turbocharger the [Mazdaspeed Mx-5s] are
actually equipped with. The original spec was a ball-bearing IHI RHF5
pushing a peak of 7.3psi. This was changed to a non ball bearing IHI
with a max pressure of 8.5psi shortly before product launch. Can you
pleae provide me with the turbocharger model that finally selected to be
installed on these vehicles for delivery in the US?"

The "Customer Assitant" politely replied with

"The turbocharger that your vehicle is equipped with is the IHI 8.5 PSI
    maximum boost charger.

I hope that this information helps. "

Have you asked IHI what they supply to mazda?

not yet... That was my next plan.

Only problem is that's a Link to IHI USA, since these are all built in japan pretty sure IHI Japan will have to be contacted for the answer...

Other issue is that only gives you contacts to distributors that appear to be mostly all diesel types...

IHI Japan (aka. Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd) looks like it would be fun to even figure out who you would contact! Standard Japanesse comapny with a 100 sub companies.

I doubt IHI would tell you even if you did find the right person. Confidentiality and all. They probably figure that if mazda wants you to know, they'll tell you.

I would get in touch with one of the shops thats done some tuning on them. I'm sure they would know.

These guys have had it apart. www.flyinmiata.com

they've had it apart, but not *that* far apart yet.... Their exhaust should be ready to release shortly... Assuming it's not *too* expensive I'll probably be one of teh 1st in line

I have another contact at Mazda that I'll try.. but I've already pestered him about a couple other things, so I'mgoing to try to "save up" and see what I can discover myself..

If all else fails, you could probaly call one of the distributors for a replacement . If one won't talk, then just call another and claim that you put one of those tornado things in and it killed your turbo or something. Tell them that the local Mazda dealer is wanting to charge you like $3000 or something for just the part, and you should get the info with an inflated price quote.
